0:44 · English captions · Read transcript
Learn how letters on a phone keypad turn a memorable word into a dialable phone number.
Full transcript
A vanity phone number uses a word in place of some digits. You dial it with the letters printed on your phone keypad.
Each letter maps to the digit on its key. A, B, and C use two. J, K, and L use five.
For example, the ending CALL becomes two, two, five, five. C and A are on two. Both Ls are on five.
Replace only the letters. Keep the area code and any other digits. Two one two, five five five, CALL becomes two one two, five five five, two two five five.
Before choosing a vanity number, say it aloud. Make sure the word is easy to spell and the full number is clear.
